WIP Wednesday 27-03-2013

It's been a few weeks since I have done a WIP post, so I'll just hit the highlights!
My BIG finish is
No Name Triangle
You can read more about it in this post, if you're interested!
****************
A couple of do.Good Stitches blocks got done for the
Happiness Circle.
A fun string block to do!

**************
We are getting down to a finish on the
Only one block left to do!
Here is what I have so far(one block missing)Bella's Curves
Bella's Curves
I'm already making the sashing strips!
*************
I finished a fun EPP project ( my first!)

**********
I started a new quilt using Oakshott shot cottons!
Love them so much!
It's just in the beginning stages...
I'm calling it
Does Anybody Hear?
Based on the brilliant song by Bruce Cockburn
The photo of these fantastic fabrics is less than stellar, as you can't see the brilliance of the shot colours.
But trust me....they are breathtaking!

A Lovely year of Finishes-March edition!

I am so happy that March is finally coming to an end!
I can sum it up in two words.....UGLY weather!
which has absolutely nothing to do with quilting, other than it kept me indoors!
Which is the point of this post!
A Lovely Year of Finishes A Lovely Year of Finishes So, I had to look back and see what my goals were for this month!
I knew that I had several planned, and actually did accomplish 2 of them.
Yay!
first up is The No Name Triangle quilt which I had to unpick the quilting and start over....
I am soooo happy that I did too..
I love the 28wt Aurifil thread, and I used a red colour so it really stands out.

I trudged through the snow during a storm to take these photos!
Here is a better view of the circular quilting with the Aurifil.
I'm pretty happy with the finish of this one!
Next on my list was to finish a project using a "ugly" fat quarter pulled out of a bag at our
MQG.
We had just learned EPP, so I decided to give it a go in a zippered pouch..

I loved doing every part of this, from the EPP, to the hand stitching with perle cotton!
The background fabric is Essex linen in a light green-not sure of the actual
colour name.
I even love the little sewing machine pull tab!

which brings me to the third project I had planned to finish....a disappearing
9 patch.
I put this top together last year using vintage sheets.
then it went onto a hanger in the closet...
Truthfully, I had plenty of time to get this done.
I even took it off the hanger and looked at it...twice....
then put it back!
I really wasn't in the mood to finish it......so I didn't!
So, I didn't complete my goals for March, but I'm not too
upset about it.
The two that I did finish make me darn happy.
Time to link up!

No Name Triangle...done & done!

I cut this little pile of Chicopee last fall thinking I would have a snuggly quilt in short order..
Well, it was stuck on my design wall off and on since then!
No progress!!
I finally bit the proverbial bullet and put it together, not really feeling much love for it.
After a quilting glitch, and some ripping..it's done!
I zoomed out this morning before yet another snow storm started up and snapped a few photos.

dusted the snow off the poor baby, and took a couple indoor shots!
I quilted off centre circles with Aurifil 28wt in red #2250 using the walking foot.
Some curvy looking things along the outer border with the FMQ foot.
Binding is a crosshatch with one small piece of the Chicopee.
The back is really minimal, with only a few triangles, and the rest is Kona Coal.
I love how the circles look on the back!
It's not really all that big at 51"x 55"
I sure am happy to have this one done.:-) :-)
Maybe I should give it a real name now! LOL!
...probably won't
...it will always be no name to me!

Here is a little something to sum up our weather...
Photo
 It sure made me chuckle...
because it's so true!!

Nancy Drew-The mystery of the bloghop & giveaway!

Like so many of us "of a certain age", my love of books probably started with
the super sleuth, Nancy Drew!
Well, okay, The Hardy Boys too!
I wonder how many nights I read under the covers with a flashlight, so my parents wouldn't know I was still awake reading?
So when Madame Samm and Carol organized a Nancy Drew themed blog hop, I jumped on board.
I remember storing all my favourite books in a cardboard box in the closet, so for this hop, I decided a proper storage basket was in order.
Using a wonderful pattern by Anna @ Noodlehead, I made this divided basket using a charm pack of Get A Clue With Nancy Drew.
A big front pocket to hold all the important stuff....maybe the flashlight!
Don't you just love  the books fabric!
This basket  holds a lot of books!
The pieced backing has some of my favourite fabrics.
A divider to maybe organize the books read....and the books to be read!
A plate of cookies, a glass of milk and a handful of fun books!
Is there anything better??
Well, maybe a giveaway....
I have 6 fat quarters of Daydream by Riley Blake to give to a winner.
Leave any kind of comment you like.
Followers get an extra entry.
I'll choose a winner at the end of the blog hop on Friday, March 15th.
This giveaway is now closed.
Now, how about visiting all the other bloggers featured today!

For the full list of bloggers, you can check out Carol's blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Now, go and grab a book to read!

WIP Wednesday 06-03-2013

I'm getting closer to another finish!
No Name Triangle is in the binding stage- over half done!
Yay!
Because I like to sew binding in the evening while watching TV, I had to find something else to do during the day!
I have 2 quilts I should be working on, but instead I made a Divided Basket using the pattern from Anna@ Noodlehead
I blogged about it here yesterday.
Then, I made a little coin purse for a friend who love all things about Paris.
I still need to do 2 blocks for our Happiness Circle @ DGS

as well as the latest block for Lucky Stars BOM.
Guess I should get busy, instead of finding other things to do!

Which reminds me....anyone doing Zakka Along 2.O
I've pre-ordered Patchwork, Please!!!

Divide and conquer

I sure do love a good pattern, and this divided basket pattern by Anna @ Noodlehead is no exception!
I used a Kokka owl linen fabric which I won last year from Ali@
The spots is Spot On by R Kaufman.
The lining and pocket binding is Lush by Patty Young.
I really liked using the webbing for the handles, and wrapping them with some fabric.
I probably should have used the owls for the pocket, so you could see them, but they look nice on the back.
I had one little pucker while sewing the outside to the lining.......
...from this moment on, it will be known as a "design element"!
Here it is all stuffed with fabric!
Loved making this one, and will definitely be doing more.

March madness....

March came in like a lamb here....
should we be worried??
Well, I'll let you know at the end of the month how much more snow we got!
Today though, I need to make a list of things I want to finish for the month
and add it to the linky party for
A Lovely Year of Finishes.-I keep wanting to write a A year of lovely finishes!!

A Lovely Year of Finishes
Last month, I only had one project, and finished it.
So, I'm going to challenge myself a little more this month.
1- No Name Triangle- I need to start the quilting over again after unpicking!!
2- Disappearing Nine Patch. I started this quilt top last summer using vintage sheets.
3- Ugly Fat Quarter Challenge. This is a project challenge from the Saskatoon MGQ
and my first EPP project.
So, that's it for me.
Hope you are all joining in!
