Ocean View From The Prairies

I finished my Ocean View From The Prairies quilt top today. Now I have alot of work to piece the back using leftover blocks. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out....really brightens up the room! Some of the yellow blocks show up white in the picture, but I'll work on a better photo when I'm done quilting it.

Finished quilt tops

Here are a couple of quilt tops finished....still need to do some piecing for the backs.
This is a baby quilt maybe for my cousin! I used Lily & Will with just some random block placement.
This one is the finished Kissy Fish top using the tute from Lee at Freshly Pieced.

I jumped on the bandwagon

I have seen so many of these wonderful pincushion organizers that I just had to do one of my own. So I headed over to Oh, Fransson! for the tute and made this!So cute and useful.
I really need to learn how to add links! Maybe I'll do that this week-end....after I unstitch the sashing from my blocks!!

Just call me stupid!!

I started a new quilt using Marine that I have been saving for a while now. I'm making very colourful wonky blocks with this fabric as well as solids from Kona and Bella solids, and various circles. I started putting the sashing on the blocks while I waited for more Kona coal to arrive (postal strike!) Loving how the dark gray outlines the blocks. However, when I started adding the newly arrived fabric, (postal strike over!) the colour was obviously different! Now, stupid me, doesn't know what the first gray was. I know for sure that it isn't Kona Ash as I have some of that. I guess it could be medium but I don't have any. Or it could be something else all together. I guess I have to undo the blocks I did in the "unknown" fabric and redo in coal. I really liked that first gray too! NOTE TO SELF....label your solids!!

Out with old...in with the new!

This is my cheapo sewing machine which has performed admirably for the last couple of years. However, I'm wanting to do more FMQ and the tension problems with Cheapo make me crazy. I've only been quilting for 2 years and I didn't want frustration to derail my fabric obsession! This is the last sewing day on my dining room table...yes!
So!!! I took the plunge and invested in a new machine...
Yes, it's a Janome Horizon 7700. Kissa and Sheriti are putting it through their inspection process for everything new!
Passed inspection and inserted in the table..."gift with purchase"!
AND...in it's own room too! Well, its really a spare bedroom, but still...
I whipped up an ironing board to fit on top of the dresser as well.
Not a great cutting table. It's an old card table and way too low for comfort. But it will do for now.
How much do I love the 1/4 " foot with the bumper!! OMG!
No pain....
No gain! This is the Kissy Fish tutorial by Lee at Freshly Pieced. I love this quilt so much! But all that squaring up of little hst;s ...holy cow! The fabric is mostly Frolic with a few stash items thrown in.
Trying to get the placement right! Sorry about the flannel striped designboard!! I'll post a real finished picture soon.
Thanks Lee for a great quilt tutorial.
