DPQAL design issues

There is a Drunkard's Path QAL going on right now and I'm a participant. Such a great QAL and the block options are endless. My fabric choice is Fandango by Kate Spain and Kona Snow.

I chose a block called Devil's Puzzle found here.
Love this site and it has so many great blocks. So, after buying a DP die for my Go!baby, I happily cut away-sooo quick with the cutter.
I did a test block.............then put all the fabric on my design board......
Looks okay, but maybe the design of the block is lost in all the different colours, AND there are too many convex squares needed and not enough fabric!! So, I had to change my plan :-(. which is just so annoying. Why didn't I figure this out before starting!!! I really like this block and I think I will do it at some point.
Back here and found Dove which needs another colour naturally!
So, this is what I came up with......
I added Kona Coal, and I think I like it. I haven't sewn anything together yet, just laid out a few blocks. I think the Coal certainly gives it a specific look! Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome, please.

Wow, totally different looks! I have to say I am a sucker for devils puzzle and all that lovely negative space but your new design is nice too. Tough to decide!

It looks amazing.

What does it look like if you make four eight by eight block pieces and turn them so that each corner of your top has the dark rows running parallel to the corners.....kind of like a barn raising.

That coal really gives those prints a kick! And I love this funky layout. Very cool. Very different than anything I've seen before and I like it to boot. I like the clusters of colurs, too.

I guess your fabric was just way too busy for Devil's Puzzle. I checked out the other DP designs and I really like "Butterfly in the garden", "Reflections of love" and "Snake's Trail"

For me, getting to play around with different layouts once I have the quarter circles pieced is one of the funnest parts - and I definitely agree, you don't really know how it will look until you see it all together. The addition of the coal is great!
