Stutter...stutter....stall...

Well, I big plans to finish quilting Ocean View etc...
I started out really well...
Then, I ran out of thread!
Well, cr#%*
So, onto the back burner it goes again for a couple of weeks until more thread arrives.
All is not lost though...
I do have a couple of finished blocks for Sew Out Loud QAL.
This one used a lot of tiny pieces!!
I tried some FMQ writing....not so great....I was going to pick it out, but, now I think I'll just re-do that side panel instead. It will be much less time consuming I think.
I also decided to stop making blocks for Path to Tallahassee and finally put the darn thing together!!
Here is the completed top. Sheriti is not part of the Quilt!!
It is made up of Tallahassee blocks and Retro flower blocks.
It measures 56"x63".
Kind of an odd measurement.
I decided sometime during the night to take the extra block apart and add it to the corners!!
It leaves a lot of white space, but I don't mind that.
No plans yet on how I will quilt it...maybe just straight lines.
I used mostly reproduction 1930's fabric and all the white is linen.
It's pouring rain, so time to get ready and go out for our weekly lunch meet-up!
Hope you all are having a great week-end.

Let's Quilt!

I can't believe that I'm finally getting around to quilting Ocean View From The Prairies!!
This poor baby has been a UFO for many months!
Step one is the basting...
I had to move all the furniture out of my living room in order to spread out the whole quilt...it's Queen size...
How much do I love 505 temporary spray adhesive!!!
This only took me about an hour.
When I was pin basting, it was at least 3 hours on my hands and knees...
oh, my aching back after one of those sessions!!
Then it was off to the machine...
Sheriti was not being helpful!!
I am just doing wavy lines across the whole middle of the quilt and then I will decide what to do with the 2 rows of sashing.
Shouldn't take too long.
I am using Isacord polyester thread in grey.
I'm pretty excited to finally get this finished and on a bed!

WIP Wednesday

Well, here we go again!
Trying to figure out what I got accomplished this week.
*****
Some fun blocks for round #2 of the
I'm not sure how many I will do for this round.
*****
I also finished a quilt top for the Ironwork* QAL

This quilt finishes at somewhere around 84" square.
I used Kona ash, medium grey, charcoal, school bus, green tea and a dark green(colour unknown to me!)
I'm shopping around for a sheet to use as backing.
*****
I completed the latest block for Sew Out Loud.
This block is designed by Leila @ Where The Orchids Grow.
Another fun block to do!
Looking forward to this weeks block!!
*****
I have an almost finish as well! Woohoo!
After almost a year....I pieced together the back for
Ocean View From The Prairies.
This is a stack and slash quilt using Dan Stiles Marine and a bunch of solids as well as stash fabric.
This is the finished top....hopefully tomorrow I can get it basted and then get busy quilting it!!
My poor sewing room is in complete shambles with so many projects in the works.
The good news is that I haven't started anything new!!
well...almost...
I did get a book from the library-Socks From The Toe Up by Wendy Johnson.
I've had the wool for probably 5 years or more, so I don't think it counts as a NEW start!
I've done a ton of knitting but never socks!! Should be interesting!
*****
Hope you all have a great sewing week, and see you next Wednesday.

That Darn Murphy's Law!

Would you like to know why it is snowing here today??
*sigh*...

Well, it's because I have an appointment to get my snow tires taken off tomorrow!
 No doubt about it....
Murphy's Law in action.
darn it all anyway!!
Go bother someone else, Murphy!

Ironwork*- a finished top!

A couple of days ago I worked on finishing up a quilt top that was part of a QAL with Sandi of Piecemeal Quilts.
She did the design and had many alternative options for colour layouts, all done with her EQ7.
This was a fun project for me as I had never done any kind of asterisk, and Sandi's method was great.
I used all Kona solids for my quilt...

Kona ash and medium grey;
Kona charcoal for the grid work;
Kona school bus for the orange;
Kona green tea is the lighter green, and I don't know what the dark green is!!
This is a large quilt, measuring somewhere around 84" square.
Now I need to figure out a backing for it.
My plan is to look around for a large sheet !

WIP Wednesday

Hi everyone!
Hope this week has been great for you!
I managed to get a few things accomplished that were on my list.
Here is the latest Sew Out Loud block completed...
I know I say it every week, but I love doing this QAL!!
Should I really be having so much fun!!
Another new block has been posted for this week....yay!
I also got busy and did 3 more Tallahassee blocks as well...
I have to say, I am really getting ready for this to be finished. It seems like I have been making these blocks forever!
I took a quilting time out and made a cute stuffed turtle for a very sweet little boy, Alex!
Well, I guess that's it.
I don't have any new starts, but I promised myself that as soon as I finish SOL, Path to Tallahassee, and finish the backing for a UFO.....then, and only then, can I open up my Colourbox of Oakshott!!! Definitely an incentive!

Have a great sewing week.

Microstippling....

Our homework for Leah's Free Motion Quilting Project was micro-stippling in our whole cloth mini quilt.
All I can say is that this is not something I will try again!
Obviously, my technique sucks big time, but that would improve with lots of practice.
No, my problem was that I just did not enjoy doing it!
Not for even one minute.
Just one of those things.
These are terrible photos, but you get the idea...

I kept at it until my bobbin ran out of thread, and then abandoned it!
Surprisingly enough, I do not consider this a failure! I have learned so much doing this project. Never would I have tried outlining...and I love it...
Not to mention travel stitching....I know I will try so many more patterns now that I know I can try it.
Feathers! Love feathers now!
But no more micro-stippling for me!!
I plan to do a lot more of this though...not part of the project!
Just a fun thing to do...
I'm off to check out the work of others who probably did finish their work!

WIP Wednesday

Well, I had another productive week, although no finishes!
Sew Out Loud QAL continues with a block a week, and last week's was a very cute seam ripper.
A lot of fun to do and a quick block, which I needed after the last two toughies!!
I'm seriously having a blast doing these blocks!
I am already half way through the next one...woot!
******
My second project was part new and part UFO!!
During the swoon-along, I only completed 4 blocks because I didn't actually want a full sized quilt.
So, one block is being densely quilted (by me!) and it will be a wall hanging eventually!
So, that has left me with 3 blocks just hanging out with other UFO's.
I picked up a couple of pillow forms and with a great tutorial, inserted invisible zippers!! Yay!
Two finished 24" pillows!!
cat tested and approved......
the backsides....

*****
Then, while browsing through blogs, I came across a fantastic tutorial for flannel bunnies..at Sew Much Ado...
They are sooo cute and took me about 2 hours to finish each one.

Aren't they wonderful! They were only washed once before their
"photo shoot", so I am sure that with a couple more washings
they will fluff up nicely.
Well, I guess that's it for this week.

Second verse...same as the first...

It's a wet, dreary day, so I decided to make another Swoon pillow since I'm on a roll!
Could I possibly do as well the second time...
now, what would be the fun in that!!
Pfffttt...
had to re-do the zipper, but only once!
photos......

playing with Pic Monkey...
that's all folks!
