WIP Wednesday 24-04-2013

Like everyone else, I have been deeply moved by the tragic events during the Boston Marathon, and have been wondering what the quilting community would do to help.
It took no time at all for Berene from the VMQG
to come up with a really good plan to make flags.
They measure 6x8, so they are really quick to do.
Check out the Flickr group to see what is being done.
Click on the link to take you to the tutorial.
To Boston With Love
Here are the two I did.....

*********
In my quilting world, I finished the top for Bella's Curves!!!
Yay!!
This is from the Curve It Up QAL, using the Quick Curve ruler.
I used Bella from Lotta Jansdotter, as well as Kona Ochre and Curry.
For the sashing I used Essex yarn dyed linen in Flax, and Kona Steel.
The top measures somewhere around 59"x78"
My plan is to piece a back using the leftover curves and fabrics.
This could take a while!!!
********
I'm working on a table runner using New Leaf, an organic fabric from Daisy Janie Fabrics.
Because I am doing the Lucky Star BOM, I am combining the two projects :-)
I have 3 blocks done, and I am working on the last one....

Yes, sunglasses will be required when sitting at the table with this runner on it!
********
Along the same line, the Saskatoon Modern Quilt Guild challenge due this month is to use 2 randomly picked colours to make "something"
As I picked purple and white, I decided to make hot pads to sort of match my runner.
A sneak peek....
I'm sure I have other things I should be adding to the WIP list, but I've drawn a blank!
So, I'll link up with Freshly Pieced
WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
and with The Needle and Thread Network.

And...
If you are anything like us, and have had the coldest Spring in 120 years......
here is a funny cartoon for you....
almost true!

Have a great sewing week!

How to make the snow melt...a tutorial!

Just be dumb luck I found out that  using a credit card until it was smokin' hot....apparently snow would melt!
Who knew!

And apparently, buying fabric speeds up the process.

Your welcome...:-)

WIP Wednesday 09-04-2013

Another WIP...another Wednesday
WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

I've been working on bee blocks this week.....
Lisa designed this paper pieced block herself, and I love it!
So much, that I did two!

Then Ursi in our Happiness Circle @ do. Good Stitches asked us to make any kind of sampler block we wanted, using her colours of choice.

 Scrappy Trip, and Jacob's Ladder
I didn't notice at the time just how similar they are!
However, they most likely won't be placed beside each other, so I'm sure they will be fine.
I'm working on the last block for the Curve It Up QAL!
I have the sashing already made, so I'm hoping to start piecing the back!

....and...
I'm making a table runner using the Lucky Star BOM blocks!
Linking up @ Freshly Pieced!
Have a great sewing week!

Q2-FAL Maybe I will, maybe I won't!

The sun is shining and it's glorious!
BUT!!
it's cold, and the snow is deep with predictions of more on the way.
I want to lay on my couch and eat chocolate and Cheezies.
maybe read a good book.
It will probably be months before I can get into my yard!!
okay.... maybe a slight exaggeration!

she can quilt
she can quilt
However, I do have a list of sewing projects I should work on instead.
I know my enthusiasm will return eventually, so I'll just go ahead and list the things I want to get done this quarter.
1- Bella's Curves-the last block of this Curve It Up QAL is being done, then I need to make a backing and get her quilted.
2-Does Anybody Hear?- I started the blocks for this tree quilt using Oakshott shot cottons.
I have quite a few more blocks to do just to finish the top, but I'm hoping  to get the whole quilt finished.
3-Tablerunner
I started this table runner using fantastic fabrics I won from Daisy Janie Fabrics, called New Leaf
Love the brightness of the colours.
I using some of the blocks from the Lucky Stars BOM
This should be a quick finish.:-)
I'll link up my Q2 plans over at Leanne's!
:-) :-)

Go ahead...make my April...

A Lovely Year of Finishes A Lovely Year of Finishes

With only dreams of Spring, I am making a couple of things to brighten up my
dining room.
Maybe old man Winter will take the hint and got lost already!!
purple, orange, red and yellow in this beautiful organic bundle I was lucky enough to
win a couple months ago....
....will become paper pieced stars for a table runner!
Yummy!
I did get a start on it..

As luck would have it, our April challenge from the
is to use 2 colours which we picked(blindly) last month.
I got purple and white!
how lovely!
Hot pads and possible napkins, depending on my fabric stash ;-)
As much as I love purple, I don't have a lot of it.
We are allowed to add basic solids-white, grey and black.
so, two parts of a project to do for April's
A Lovely Year of Finishes.
