WIP Wednesday

Isn't it hard to believe that July is almost over!!
I've been enjoying our beautiful summer, but also getting some sewing time in before my brother arrives for a visit next month.
I'm pretty pleased to say that I finished a quilt top...
The Great Granny Along
which I named...
Who's Your Granny?
These are my 12 finished blocks
The fabric is all Flea Market Fancy and Katie Jump Rope.
The background is a white on white pattern which doesn't show up all that well in the photos, but it is a fantastic flowery print!
Then I spent a couple days adding gray and white sashing and borders.
The white is actually the same as the background fabric in the blocks.
I'm totally in love with this quilt!
Now, I have to piece a backing and figure out just how the heck I'm going to quilt it without ruining it!
*****
I am almost done my string quilt...my order of Kona navy arrived and I have only one more block to make and then I can piece it together.
Once that is done, I have to seriously figure out a block to send to May in The Star of Africa bee.
 Star of Africa
My month was June and the blocks are starting to arrive and are so freakin' gorgeous, I am terrified about messing up.
This is my first Bee and there are some seriously talented ladies in it!

I'm getting so excited that the Olympics start in just 2 more days!
I'll be putting in some serious couch time.
Too bad I don't do EPP!
Maybe I should do some hand quilting on Who's Your Granny? Hmmm...
Have a great sewing week!

In a bit of a jam.. :-)

Well, it is summer after all and berries are abundant.
I trotted off to the Farmer's Market yesterday and picked up some sour cherries...
then out to my backyard for raspberries.
A little of this, a little of that
and
Sour Cherry & Raspberry Jam !!
So yummy!

In other news...
I completed all 12 of my Granny blocks for
The Great Granny Along
Here they are...
Who's Your Granny?
Now, I have to put them in some sort of order and add sashing etc
The fabrics used are Flea Market Fancy & Katie Jump Rope by Denyse Schmidt.
I can't believe I did these in less than a week!
They sure were quick to put together though.
My navy fabric has also arrived, so I will be getting back to my string blocks.
Hope your week-end is fantastic!

WIP Wednesday

It's all about bad weather and boredom the last few days!
Lots of rain...and then more rain..
waiting for fabric...
so I joined The Great Granny Along!!

and
the granny blocks have been on my radar ever since I first saw them appearing in blogland.
I resisted....until I got tired of waiting for fabric to arrive!
Deep in my closet was a big pile of Flea Market Fancy and a very tiny pile of Katie Jump Rope. I also found a piece of white on white fabric that I think
my aunt gave me when she was destashing.
A plan was born ;-)
It's a lot of fun doing these granny squares and these blocks have an extra round.
They finish at 12"
I'm going to call this one..
Who's Your Granny?

I did the first 2 blocks Monday.

Then I did 3 blocks on Tuesday!
It's goes so fast once the squares are cut.
Everything is 2.5", so it would be great to do with any pre-cuts.
None of my fabric is precuts, so I had to cut it all, but still went very quickly.
So, that brings me to 3 WIP's
and NO finishes!
However, everything is using fabric I already had on hand.....well..I did have to order more Kona navy, which is why I was waiting and bored!!
It's all good though!

WIP Wednesday

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

Ahhh! Summertime...
Heat, heat, heat and sunshine...
is there anything better?
Lazy afternoons spent in the hammock reading and napping!
There is something about the wind rustling the leaves, and the birds chirping that just makes me close my eyes!
I am slowly working on these blocks, but have stalled while I wait for more Kona navy to arrive.
Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses.

WIP Wednesday

Absolutely nothing completed this week except some yard work!
After finishing Off The Grid last week, I thought I`d be rummaging through my drawer of `started and never finished` projects, but it was not meant to be.
I think I gave myself a shock while reorganizing my fabrics a couple weeks ago...I reached 300 comic book boards, and still had buckets of fabric!
So, no more buying for a while...unless it's something that I really have to get!
Instead, I decided to do some scrap busting and revisited a great tutorial that I had saved for a while.
So, this is the start.....
Everything but the Kona Navy is from my scrap bin.
Love the navy, but it sure shows up when the joins don't match perfectly.
It took me several rounds with my ripper before finding the matching point that worked for me and my machine!

Since I can`t work on one thing at a time apparently, I also started a stash buster!
Over a year ago I purchased a stack of fat quarters of vintage stripe sheets from Jeni`s Etsy shop.
So, I pulled them out and decided to do something with them. This is a disappearing 9 patch block.

Not sure what size it will finish at, but I`m running out of the solid and I don`t know the colour ;-), so that will determine the end result!
 This week:
finishes-0
starts-2
ufo-2
So, that`s it......short and sweet.

Fresh Sewing Day-July...

For me, June was the month for finishing large quilts!
One had been in the works since last year, so I was very happy to get it done......it is a large queen size bed quilt.
Ocean View From The Prairies.
The second large quilt was done as part of an Ironwork* QAL with Sandi at Piecemeal Quilts
I called mine Off The Grid
Apparently I was going through my orange and grey(gray) phase!
My other finishes were smaller, but a lot of fun.
Using a paper pieced pattern from Amy at During Quiet Time, I made a market tote for a friend.
I also made the gardening glove pattern, but it needs some work to outline the glove before I will use it.......unfortunate fabric choice on my part!
A quick and fun project was making key fobs!
yes, playing around with PicMonkey!
Finally, I did a ``READ``book bag as a pattern tester for Michelle at City House Studio.
That`s it for my June finishes, and I`ve already got 2 quilts in the planning stage for July!
