WIP Wednesday 28-08-2013

I don't know what it is about this summer that I can't get organized to do a WIP post! Sheesh!

You'd think I was getting old or something equally ridiculous!

I have actually completed a WIP, and also started and finished a second one!

Which still leaves several WIP's hanging out somewhere!

So, first of all, a finish!!

Marcelle Medallion-whoo hoo!

The most fun making a quilt.....ever!

In the started and finished quickly category is a test quilt I did for a pattern by M-R@ Quilt Matters.

Incredible pattern, and I LOVE this quilt!

Falling for Stripes.

Now, for the sad WIP news!

I can't believe I have abandoned Bella's Curves for so long....

She is in desperate need of some backing and then some quilting.

I hate making backing!

Also in a circling mode is Vintage Nine Patch.

Again, backing needs to just magically appear!

I've been doing lots of small projects and bee blocks instead of my WIP's.....

Love doing some Zakka Along 2.0 projects....

 Of course, bee blocks are slowly getting made, and I did make one cute sleeping bag pouch that I seen all over Flickr!

maybe September will get me shifted into the right gear, and I can get back to those quilts.

Yes folks, I finally finished it!

A Lovely Year of Finishes

I have to say that I am completely thrilled with this quilt! So, you are going to see a pile of photos!

There were a few trials and tribulations along the way, but they are long forgotten now.

I started this quilt because of two lucky wins!
A bundle of Carnaby Street by Pat Bravo from Fabricworm.

and this Quilting & Patchwork magazine from Lily's Quilts.

I think my favourite part was the flying geese in which I used all text fabrics.

No, wait.......
maybe it's the cross blocks using my inspiration Carnaby Street fabric....

hmmm........well, I also loved using my Oakshott collection for the triangle border....

Okay, I can't pick a favourite border, but I do know what gave me the biggest fit!!!

...a big, ugly oops!
Fixed, but still haunts my dreams!

Now, for the quilting-
Yippee!

What? You can't see around the legs?
okay, okay...

 Yes, there is still a paw in there!

As you can see, I tried a lot of different FMQ designs!
It was good practice for me, as I tend to be cowardly when it comes to quilting.
I used a beautiful Aurifil thread for all the piecing and quilting.
My go to piecing thread is a 50wt #2021
For the quilting, I used a pale green 50 wt #2800.
I just realized that I don't have a good photo of the back!
This is the only one.....

Basically, some random piecing!
Okay, that's it for my August finish.

Happy Hexagon Trivet-Zakka Along 2.0

I've been quite the slacker when it comes to keeping up with the Zakka Along 2.0 projects!

Skipping the kiddie stuff seemed like the smart thing to do since there aren't any kiddies in my house :-)

So, I got back at it this week with the Happy Hexagon Trivet.

This was so much fun! I loved picking fabrics, and since it is paper pieced, it went pretty smoothly for me.

I did use Insulbrite instead of the batting, but otherwise followed the directions!

I really enjoyed this one, and I know I'll get lots of use out of the trivet.

Christmas is coming, and I think it would be a great present for friends.

Falling for Stripes.....

A few weeks ago M-R Charbonneau who is also known as Quilt Matters, put out the call for pattern testers for a quilt she was designing using stripes.

Being a big fan of M-R's, I volunteered!!

And she accepted me!

I had so much fun doing this quilt....picking fabrics was my favourite part....

I went with Kaffe Fassett woven stripes.

What's not to love about that??

Well, my darling aunt, who got me interested in quilting, said when she saw it in progress...

"Oh Patti, I really don't like those colours!"

We had a good laugh over it! She is well into her 80's and doesn't quilt any more, and obviously not a fan of unusual colour combinations!

 Now, for the details..

Measurements are 45" x 55"

Fabrics are:

Kaffe Fassett woven stripes, Kona Iron, Charcoal and Raisin, a couple of shot cottons- one is Kaffe Fassett and one is Oakshott.

The quilting is all done with the walking foot of my Horizon using a glorious Aurifil 40wt thread in a dark grey #2625

For the back, I used some of the unused blocks, along with more of the Kona colours.

ALYoF- August goal setting

I've had a real problem this summer finishing my goals, so I'm going to make a real effort to get a goal set and finished for August!!

It's going to be all about my Marcelle Medallion that has been sitting idle for weeks now.

I started doing some FMQ and then made a bad decision which has required some major use of my seam ripper....

it hasn't been fun, as there is alot of travel stitching to pick out.

However, I will prevail and get back to the quilting, and have it done by the end of August!!
