Yarn purchased many years ago, then lost, then found and waiting to be used-$20.
Yarn purchased on sale at Michael's and used for these socks-$12.
Knitting needles is various sizes and lengths because I didn't know what to use-$50.

Who am I kidding!! These suckers cost me a fortune!
I've discovered that I cannot learn sock knitting from a book! Everything I learned was from you-tube videos, although the Craftsy class was good too. However, you-tube is free!
I used the magic loop which I really liked, as the double pointed needles tried to kill me on several occasions while trying to bend them into submission.
We had issues about who was in charge......I lost -(
Also, I should do swatches! While my socks fit just fine, I could have easily knit them quite a bit smaller and made use of the nylon in the yarn. They will probably stretch horribly after wearing them longer than an hour!
Not a big fan of short rows! I kept picking up the wraps wrong or something! The heel looks funny!
I did however, make my own sock blockers! Yay for that! Saved a few bucks!
For my next pair I will try a different method, and will also try two a a time!!
I do plan to make more considering how much I have invested in them already!
Something to do while watching Downton Abbey on Sunday nights!

Laughing here (with you, I hope!) YAY!! Good for you! I've done socks on double-points and two at a time on circs but regardless that first pair is just so darn satisfying!! Woohoo! They look fantastic!
Short rows get easier and make more sense with practice and time. And you will use all those different needles in the future. I truly believe that. :-) And yay for Downton Abbey!

Well done, I know that feeling as I've just finished my first pair and started my second last night. I've not blocked mine though.
I LOVE YOUR SOCKS!! Those are by far THE BEST and coolest socks I have ever seen - the yarn is awesome! My feet would be very happy feet with a pair of socks like those! I would smile all day - as I am sure you are doing 'coz you have awesome socks!!!

Your story reminds me of my husband's shirt. I decided to make him a shirt on my old Kenmore, and was having a lot of trouble sewing the denimy fabric I had chosen. So, I went out and bought a Bernina. I told him it was a $2000 shirt!
I love your socks, and hopefully, like me and my Bernina, you'll get lots more use out of the needles and book.
The socks are wonderful! I really want to learn to knit specifically so I can make socks. The yarn I see for knitting socks - swoon! I think it could become like my fabric addiction...congratulations on a great finish!
Oh well done! I never got the hang of knitting. Mother and mother-in-law both tried to reach me, but I'll have to stick o fabric!
