The Free Motion Quilting Project

I seem to be "late to the party" for so many projects already this year!
So, I finally settled down to do some FMQ practice
I have done stippling in the past, so what I needed was to practice scale....
I also recently purchased a Supreme Slider from Leah, and hadn't even tried it yet!
So, I set up my machine and got to work on a practice piece.
This is how it turned out......
Generally, not horrible. Ha! I actually found the smaller scale easier to do than the large scale. Is that weird?
My stitching looked okay on the front, but not so much on the back. I did use a really cheap, thin fabric, so that could possibly be the problem. I usually leave my tension on auto, but I'll play with it a bit and see if that improves. I was quite happy that I managed to maintain a speed I could handle. One of my biggest problems is moving the quilt way too fast and losing sight of where I am supposed to going next!
Linking up with Leah!

WIP Wednesday

I've been completely distracted this week with terrible back pain.....I think probably a pinched nerve!
So, not much sewing got done.
Thankfully, it's much better now!!
I'm taking a break from Path to Tallahassee as all that foundation piecing gets to me at times.
So, instead, I started a new quilt! This is a baby quilt for my cousins new son, Blake.

It's a quick block to make and alot of fun as well. I had the Pooches and Pickups fabric around for a while, and then added a few other fabrics from my stash.
The background fabric in Kona Ocean.
I still have more blocks to make, but it shouldn't take too long.
Still haven't decided on a layout either!

The only other thing I did this week was a new framed pouch. This one has the tabs to add a chain which I really like. Details here.

Still unfinished and lingering on a hanger or in a drawer is:
2- Can You See Me Now
I am so sad that Picnik is closing, as I use it all the time and I don't have Photoshop.
What do you use for photo editing?
As always, I'm linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for...

I'm not fooled....

...by the brilliant blue sky out there!
It's still freezing cold here with no relief in sight until Monday.
Big yuk!
So yesterday I decided it was time to try another framed pouch....
Just after Christmas I received my order of new frames, this time with the thingies to add a chain.
I used Lisa Lam's tutorial. I love the ways she sews each flap separately when joining the top sections.
I also used a sew in stabilizer as she suggested, and it worked out really well. I was kinda nervous thinking it would be too bulky, but it was perfect.
Lisa also has great advice for selecting all kinds of stabilizers etc., so check her out if you haven't already.
For fabrics, I used a Lost and Found print by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake, and the lining is Robert Kaufman Metro Living.
So, without further ado, here it is...

I may have to shorten the chain a bit though....I think it's 120cm.- a bit too long for me.

WIP Wednesday

Our unusually warm weather(-5 to +5) finally ended in typical Prairie fashion....morning temperature yesterday -37C!! Not a typo :-(.
The only thing to do on a day like today is drink tea, read, and sew, so that's just what I am doing.
I finished up a new pillow to go with my quilt Come Fly With Me.

I had already completed one pillow using the Circle of Geese pattern, which I love.
This pillow is a Maple Leaf block pattern using the same Kaffe shot cotton, and crosshatch fabrics.
Perfect for snuggling under on a cold winter day.
I might have to take a nap!!
I'm also slowly working on my quilt using 1930's reproduction fabrics.
I call it Path to Tallahassee. Here are 2 more completed blocks.

And this is what I have completed so far......
I finally caved in and ordered the Swoon pattern! I really wanted to do this quilt this year, so there is no time like the present.
Just seeing all the Swoon quilts coming together in the Swoonalong flickr group, has me anxious to get started!
I completed my Japanese x and + blocks for the flickr swap and have sent them off to the UK. where Sarah is going to do all the heavy lifting in order to sort them all and return new ones!
I guess that's about it for this week.
Once again, unfinished projects from last year, remain unfinished!
Time to link up with Lee at Freshly Pieced.
