A Lovely February Finish!

A Lovely Year of Finishes

I'm so happy to have finished Starry, Starry Night, and I know that it will be one of my all time favourites!
This photo was taken last last August when it was just a top!
fast forward to today............!!
Same location, but laying on top of 3 feet of snow!
I had to toss it out from the deck, and hope it landed upright!
As you can see, there are bits of snow around the edges.
Hmmm.....then I had to climb through the snow to retrieve it....didn't consider that when I tossed it!
Not completely sure why I needed an outside shot!
I loved doing this string quilt, and using some favourite fabrics as well as a lot of scraps!
For the quilting, I did 1/4 stitching along the coloured seams and intersecting lines through the navy stars using yellow, green and purple thread.
The navy border was done with a FMQ tetris pattern.
Binding is the same Kona navy as the border.
For some strange reason I wanted to offset the centre with navy borders, and this was truthfully the most difficult part!
I have to admit it is not perfectly square, but I don't mind.
For the backing, I used AMH Innocent Crush voile.
Oh, how I love voile backing!!
There are actually 4 layers to this quilt, as the strings were sewn onto a foundation piece. But, with the voile, it doesn't feel heavy at all.
It took me forever to find this tutorial again, but finally I found it to give the proper credit to Molly Flanders for designing this block!
I definitely need to organize my bookmarked tutorials!

It looks so great! So nice to see it finished - you must be so happy to add it to the done and dusted pile. Are you bringing it on Sunday? :-)

I had to laugh picturing you trudging through the snow to gather up your quilt. It is lovely though - and your quilting is great!

I love your quilt! Photographs outside seem to make the colors more clear, but going out there to retrieve it would have been way too cold for me...you were a brave woman. :O)

I do hope I get to see this one in person! I've never seen (or fondled) a voile backed quilt. In fact, I've never seen voiles in any quilt but I've read about how soft they are and how people love them. A voile project is high on my list.

This is a stunning quilt!
